For somewhere that advertised a warm welcome and a refurbished house with staff in period costume it was a disappointment to say the least. There was no warm welcome. I had to phone a number to ring to be told the key was in a plastic container in the flower pot and asked what time i wanted breakfast and what sort of breakfast. Asked for a full English but came down in the morning to bacon and scrambled eggs as the woman was sure someone had requested that. The room was at the top of the house and ok if Swedish saunas are your thing. I know we didn't pay a vast amount for our stay but I still expect cleanliness and the curtains to fit properly and I'm quite happy to reuse towels as long as they can be dried. The house has apparently undergone a refurbishment but I couldn't really see where. Sadly disappointing all in all.

No meet or greet, the women was out buying light bulbs, was sat in the car waiting for her, had to ring her up, to find out, how the hell to get in the hotel, on showing to are room, we was given lecture about the toilet system, what to put in the toilet, no option about time or food for breakfast next morning. The beds are like sleeping on hard wood, room is freezing, asked about a taxi ranks, the women again disappeared had to find out the information are selves, trust me I wouldnt be recommending this hotel to anyone, you had to give one star to write a review, trust me I wouldnt give it one star at all

Rowena the owner went out of her way for me, my husband was on a course and I was going to Chester, she kindly offered to drop me off at the train station, very kind lady thank you again.

Well, we arrived and no one was there, had to telephone to find out where our room was and the key for that matter. First impressions were not great, i know the place is based on Edwardian times but this was very dated and smelly! Our room wasnt much better. It was musty and dusty, the whole thing needed a bit of refurbishment. Come next day we went down to breakfast, were told where to sit, was not given any options for breakfast it was just a full english and that was it, all diners were then informed that we must park properly as she was having more guests tonight (having come back later that day there was plenty of space). We were then rushed to pay up, she chased everyone for their payment, she even came to our room chasing for payment. Come the next morning we went down for 8.30 (being the beginning for serving breakfast) and was told to go away and to come back at 9 as she wasnt ready and when we did come back we were treated with a little contempt and again was given a full english and no other option. This place was awful and we could not wait to leave. Will not be coming back and will not be recommending this place!

Great hotel. Lovely staff and breakfast too. A really interesting building with history.
